Created on family foundations, the Wither Hills vineyard is not only an award-winning winery, but a piece of history.

Wither Hills has enjoyed great local and international success since its inception in 1992. Nestled against the hills on the southern side of the Wairau plains, the original vineyards cover a significant 100 hectares and take its name from the landmark range of hills that border the property to the south – the Wither Hills. The strength of the brand has been built around this spectacular landscape where the vineyards flourish in free draining, silty alluvial loam over deep stony river deposits, providing a near-perfect growing environment.

Today the wine making team is headed up by Ben Glover, who after ten years at the winery brings an enormous amount of experience, skill and consistency to the style of wine that is Wither Hills. Born and bred in Marlborough, he has always had an interest in the wine industry and is particularly passionate about promoting the virtues of Marlborough, particularly when it comes to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

Wither Hills is committed to producing truly regional styles, reflecting the naturally rich and intense characters brought on by the unique conditions of the Marlborough region. Wither Hills is founded on the belief that fine wines are created from exceptional vineyards. Their philosophy, ‘created in the vineyard’, embodies their firm commitment to producing only the highest quality fruit which are in turn reflected in the wine styles. This challenge lies at the feet of Wither Hills Viticulturist, Geoff Matthews and his talented team who are responsible for managing over 350 hectares of prime Wairau valley vineyards.

The combination of intelligent winemaking and viticultural expertise is a powerful one that yields genuine rewards for those who appreciate premium wine. Today Wither Hills are regarded as benchmark producers for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
