Conceived by Chris Darling, and teaming up with Bart Arnst The Darling Wines came to fruition.
By selecting and managing vineyards of high quality we aim to produce a number of different and interesting wines.
Our wines show vineyard expression and regionality. Ultimately sourced from organic grapes.
The wines are crafted by Chris and Bart who together have over 30 years wine industry experience.
We hope you enjoy the wines
Originally from Australia Chris has worked with both large and small wine companies throughout the world. After graduating Roseworthy in Adelaide, Chris worked throughout Australia while also making wine in Europe, including France, Greece and the Czech Republic. Chris then headed to Western Australia to work with Hardys at their Houghton Winery. From here the journey then headed to Marlborough New Zealand to continue the hunt for great cool climate wines. Chris is currently Senior Winemaker for the jointly owned winery of Matua Valley and Babich Wines. With this experience and skill Chris is now directing his passion for wine into The Darling.
European travel introduced Bart into the world of wine. After many adventures Bart returned to New Zealand to embark on a new career path which now sees him consulting to the wine industry throughout the country. Bart has worked extensively in Marlborough, and while Viticulturist for Seresin Estate he was instrumental in their conversion to organics. This period confirmed Barts belief that running vineyards organically/biodynamically is the future (and once the past) of grape growing. Now running his own consultancy and part owning an organic contracting business Bart also works with OANZ (Organics Aotearoa New Zealand) as one of their vineyard consultants. With his experience in growing grapes under conventional, organic and biodynamic regimes Bart believes this is the future for The Darling.
