Mystery Creek Wines
Mystery Creek Wines is a progressive, niche producer. With vineyards in the central North Island (just south of Cambridge) and Marlborough (in the Waihopai Valley) Our Waikato vines are nurtured in Horotiu sandy loam over free-draining river shingle, planted on a gentle north facing slope overlooking the Waikato River. The total planted area is 12ha. Our Marlborough vineyard (approximately 200ha (all Sauvignon Blanc) is planted alongside the banks of the Waihopai River, in gently sloping river shingle.
The original Chardonnay grapes were planted in 1990 and sold on contract. The initial winery was built in 1999 and the first vintage harvested in 2000. More recently Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Syrah have been planted with the first wines produced in 2005.
Angus Road Eatery is the winery restaurant at Mystery Creek Wines - a converted wooden homestead perched high on the banks of the Waikato River and surrounded by the Mystery Creek home block, a 5ha vineyard producing award winning wines.
The 85-seat restaurant was opened in November 2007 and has been an immediate hit with both locals and visitors to the Waikato.
Angus Road Eatery is located just 12 minutes from Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu on the Corner of Mystery Creek Rd and Angus Rd, Ohaupo.
The moment you arrive the ambience grabs you, from the floor to ceiling schist chimney housing a huge open fire to the sprawling decks and the secluded dining areas looking out over the river and surrounding countryside.
