The Cockburn’s Vintage Port is a testament to the dedication and precision of the Symington family’s winemaking philosophy. Originally introduced by Cockburn’s in 1815, the company has always focused on producing wines of exceptional quality. The 2017 Vintage represents another significant milestone in their journey of innovation, using their prized vineyards, particularly Quinta dos Canais, which has been crucial to Cockburn’s success. The extreme weather conditions in 2017 led to low yields, resulting in a Vintage Port of incredible concentration and complexity.
Tasting Notes
The Cockburn’s Vintage Port presents a resinous nose with rich forest floor aromas, mingling with bergamot and rockrose notes. Fresh, mineral hints of eucalyptus and anise add to its complexity. On the palate, this Port is intense, featuring layers of blueberry and kirsch flavours, supported by peppery tannins that provide Cockburn’s signature grip. It’s a finely tuned wine, with a long-lasting finish that promises excellent ageing potential, making it a truly complete wine. This exceptional Vintage Port is best enjoyed at the end of a grand meal. Pair it with rich, nutty desserts, strong cheeses, or simply savour it on its own. Best served at room temperature, it is an ideal accompaniment for celebratory moments with good friends.
