Overview
Askerne Merlot / Malbec / Cabernet 2020 is a complex blend sourced from the upper and lower terraces of the Askerne Vineyard, combining a range of soil profiles from sandy silt to gravels. Each grape variety was fermented separately, with extended post-fermentation maceration to enhance richness. After pressing, the wine was aged for 12 months in oak barriques to complete malolactic fermentation. The final blend consists of 43% Merlot, 29% Malbec, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, with a 20% new oak component for added depth and structure.
Tasting Notes
The nose is aromatic and inviting, with savoury plum spice, dark berry fruits, vanilla, mocha, and warm toasted oak notes. The palate is rich and full, layered with concentrated berry and plum flavours, supported by a fine tannin structure. A long, juicy finish brings the wine to a smooth, satisfying conclusion. This wine is perfect for those who enjoy a rich, textured red with excellent aging potential.
