"Reasonably dry riesling with subtle citrus, grapefruit, lime and a suggestion of white rose. An ethereal wine with delicate flavours. A restrained style with good purity" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2019

Sun bleached straw colour in the glass. The 2019 Riesling is off-dry, and a pure expression of the grape variety, it will delight with its lively character. A wine that exhibits lifted notes of crisp green apple, citrus fruits in particular zesty lime, subtle freesia and bound beautifully with refreshing fruit acidity. The aromas integrate graciously with the mineral-driven palate and provide texture with tension and lingering length.

The 2019 Riesling release is from selected blocks in Lowburn, Central Otago. Free draining soils of loess, schist, and uncemented gravels together with long hours of sunshine produce lively fruit with gentle ripe acidity. The grapes are hand picked; whole bunch pressed, settled for 48hrs and then fermented at cool temperatures to retain the fresh fruit characteristics.

Based in the Gibbston Valley, just 25 minutes from Queenstown, Denis Marshall was one of the ‘Pinot Pioneers’ of the region, purchasing land in 1995 and planting his first Pinot Noir vines in 2001. He and partner Ulrike Kurenbach, who grew up in Germany’s world-renowned Riesling country the Rhineland, both have a passion for premium quality wine. They returned to the vineyard to realise a shared dream and establish the Hawkshead brand after working in the UK. They are both totally involved in all aspects of viticulture, production and marketing, and now produce their wines from a range of the best vineyards in Central Otago.
