Overview:
The Seifried 2021 Chardonnay hails from two exceptional vineyard sites in Nelson: the gravelly, free-draining soils of the Rabbit Island vineyard and the stony, sun-warmed soils of the Brightwater vineyard. Situated close to the sea, these sites offer ideal growing conditions, moderating temperatures and promoting vibrant fruit character. The 2021 vintage was particularly light, resulting in a small but highly concentrated crop. Despite challenging conditions—spring frost, poor flowering, and hail—the grapes achieved remarkable concentration and depth of flavour.
Tasting Notes:
This wine reveals a beautiful concentration of citrus and summer stonefruit aromas, complemented by a touch of cinnamon stick spice and nutmeg. On the palate, the Seifried 2021 Chardonnay offers a rich, balanced profile with layers of tropical fruit flavours. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, which adds structure and mouthfeel. Hand-stirring the barrels helped build texture, giving the wine a delicious, spicy finish.
