Matavino is nestled on gentle north facing slopes, in the famous Matakana Wine region – just east of Warkworth, and less than an hour north of Auckland, NZ.
The combination of Matakana’s temperate maritime climate, combined with the local rich clay and limestone soil makes for a great environment to grow Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, plus Chardonnay and Viognier grapes.
Matavino wines are best matched with food but also taste great out on the deck or around the BBQ with friends and family. After all, thats what Italian life is all about great food, great wine, great company!
Cellar door at The Vintry in Matakana Village is open daily
Matavino is a small, family-owned and operated vineyard, nestled on gentle north-facing slopes in the famous Matakana Wine region. Our vision is to grow a variety of wines to match local food and produce. This includes some red Italian grape varieties such as Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo as well as the French varieties of Viognier and Chardonnay. The vines are hand-nurtured by family and friends using sustainable practices.
Matavino vineyard was initially planted in September 2006 and the first wines went on sale in October 2010.
