Our Maybern Vineyard is a tribute Warwick's parents May and Bernard who allowed Warwick to establish a vineyard on their land when if was just a teenager. Located behind our cellar door in Koromiko, our home block vineyard became Marlborough's first steep hillside vineyard when planted in 1977. On this north west facing steep slope mechanical intervention is impossible, so all work is done by hand, except for the mowing which is usually done by our sheep!

Made from hand harvested grapes, our Pinot Noir Maybern is a partial wild ferment where the wine is allowed to ferment spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, unique to our Koromiko vineyard and winery. Nurtured with minimal intervention an additions it was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months and bottled with a light filtration only in February 2021.

"Vibrant ruby red, the Johanneshof Pinot Noir Maybern 2019 seduces with its fragrance and flavours of cherries and red berries
with a touch of plum and leather. Earthy undertones with a fine tannins and medium acidity lead to a nuanced finish. The soft tannins promise a good potential to age, while its immediate drinkability might not allow for this however. Perfect with hearty dishes complementing mushrooms, meat and game.
