The Maude Chardonnay is a masterful expression of Central Otago’s pristine terroir, born from the steep, north-facing terraces of Mount Maude Vineyard in the Maungawera Valley. Established in 1994 by Dawn and Terry Wilson, this boutique vineyard thrives in the region’s long, dry autumns, producing exceptional grapes. The vintage was a grower’s dream, marked by ideal weather conditions that nurtured even vine growth, healthy crops, and smaller berry sizes, resulting in concentrated flavours. This Chardonnay combines richness, balance, and elegance, embodying the essence of its celebrated origins.
Tasting Notes
A pale straw hue with lime-green reflections introduces this luxurious Chardonnay. The nose is rich and inviting, with aromas of ripe stone fruits and poached pears intertwined with hints of biscuit and toasted almonds from careful barrel maturation. On the palate, luscious stone fruit flavours dominate, complemented by a warm, full-bodied texture and a touch of toasty complexity. Despite its richness, the wine finishes clean and crisp, showcasing impeccable balance and finesse. This Chardonnay is a testament to Maude’s dedication to crafting elegant, powerful wines with a sense of place.
