Overview
The Sheild Wines Pinot Noir is a complex and finely crafted expression of Nelson, made from an eclectic mix of Pinot Noir clones including Able, Pommard, Dijon 777 and 115, and the Swiss selection 10/5. Each parcel was carefully handled to highlight its unique character, with extended maceration, Burgundian yeasts and ageing in both new and seasoned Hogs Heads for 15 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, this wine offers both purity and depth, true to its site and thoughtful winemaking.
Tasting Notes
Opaque ruby in the glass, the bouquet reveals dark cherry, plum and subtle spice over a gentle earthy undertone. The palate is medium to full bodied, plush and layered, with velvet-smooth tannins and balanced acidity adding freshness and structure. Rich yet refined, it finishes long and warming, with elegance and poise. A Pinot Noir of texture and depth, it pairs beautifully with duck, lamb or wild mushroom dishes, and will continue to evolve gracefully with time in the cellar.
