Overview
The Maude Reserve Dry Riesling is a testament to the pristine terroir of Mount Maude Vineyard, nestled in the Maungawera Valley near Wanaka, New Zealand. Established in 1994 by Dawn and Terry Wilson, the vineyard’s steep, north-facing terraces and Central Otago’s long, dry autumns create an exceptional microclimate for crafting world-class Rieslings. Despite a challenging vintage marked by late frosts and unpredictable weather patterns, the harvest delivered intensely flavoured fruit of outstanding quality, albeit in limited quantities. This wine embodies the resilience of its origins and the precision of artisanal winemaking.
Tasting Notes
A luminous green and pale straw hue introduces this youthful, classic Riesling. On the nose, vibrant aromas of lemon-lime and citrus blossom are complemented by a subtle mineral undertone. The palate bursts with lively grapefruit and stone fruit flavours, underpinned by a natural fruit weight and a delicate, racy acidity. The wine’s textural richness and mineral complexity culminate in a long, lingering finish, offering a harmonious balance of freshness and depth that showcases the elegance of Central Otago Riesling at its finest.
