Overview:
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 17 Plateau Merlot is a rich and robust Hawke’s Bay expression sourced from the acclaimed Gimblett Gravels. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with lifted notes of spiced plum, tobacco leaf and cedar. Concentrated layers of ripe dark fruit, cocoa and warm spice unfold across a dense, silky palate, framed by fine-grained tannins and a lingering toasty finish. Elegant yet powerful, this wine is drinking beautifully now but will continue to develop gracefully for over a decade.
Tasting Notes:
Fragrant aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant and smoked spice are layered with cocoa, leather and subtle mineral complexity. Full-bodied and concentrated, the palate reveals rich black fruits intertwined with chocolate and earthy nuances. Plush in texture yet structured with firm tannins and balanced acidity, the finish is long, savoury and satisfying.
